Royal Bay University Library

A large repository of knowledge located on the main campus.

Description

A large stone and brick building, standing four stories tall and dating back to the French Colonial period. Home to a large number of books on various topics, historical data on the city and university, and some artifacts from the Catholic churches in the area.

History

After the 1995 hurricane passed through the area, the RBU Library took up temporary storage of many artifacts and documents from the St. Cyprian Archives. Several of these pieces were incredibly fragile, necessitating a more long term storage at the university facilities rather than being moved back and potentially risking their further loss of integrity. The building the library resides in is an original structure dating back to the period of French colonization, its sturdy form weathering years of storms and war into the modern day.
